Dental implants in Airoli, Navi Mumbai.
A dental implant is a small titanium screw placed in the jawbone that acts as an artificial tooth root. Once the bone has healed around it, we fit a crown on top — the result looks and feels like a natural tooth.
What an implant actually is.
Most teeth have two parts: the root (anchored in the jawbone) and the crown (the part you see and chew with). When you lose a tooth, you lose both. A bridge or denture can replace the crown part — an implant replaces the root part too.
The implant itself is a small titanium screw, about the length of a tooth root. The body accepts titanium without rejecting it; bone grows onto the screw and holds it in place permanently. The crown that goes on top is a separate, shaped ceramic piece that gets fitted later.
When you'd want one over the alternatives.
A bridge needs healthy teeth on either side of the gap to anchor to — and we have to shape those teeth down to do it. An implant doesn’t touch the neighbours.
A denture sits on the gums and can move; an implant is fixed and you forget it is there. Bone also slowly shrinks under a denture because nothing is stimulating it. An implant keeps the bone working.
For one or two missing teeth, in most adults, implants are the closest thing we have to growing the tooth back.
How it works
Five steps over three to six months.
Most of the time is the bone healing — not chair time. You come in for short appointments at each stage.
- 01/
Consultation and scan
We examine you in the chair, take an X-ray (and sometimes a 3D scan) to see the bone, and discuss whether an implant is the right option for you. About 30 minutes. - 02/
Implant placement
Under local anaesthetic, the titanium post is placed into the jawbone where the tooth root used to be. Most patients say it feels less involved than an extraction. 45 to 90 minutes per implant. - 03/
Healing
The bone grows onto the titanium — a process called osseointegration. This takes 3 to 6 months. You go home with a temporary cover and a normal eating routine, with a few foods to avoid. - 04/
Abutment fitting
Once the bone has healed, we attach a small connector (the abutment) to the implant. A short appointment, often the same week as taking the impression for your crown. - 05/
Crown fitted
The final crown is fitted on top of the abutment, colour-matched to your other teeth. You walk out chewing on it the same day.
After treatment
The first week is the only careful one.
- Day 1–2: some swelling and tenderness is normal. Ice on the cheek helps. Paracetamol is usually enough.
- First week: soft food — eggs, dal, rice, soup, yoghurt. Avoid the implant side when chewing.
- Cleaning: gentle salt-water rinses, no brushing the implant site directly for the first two days. We give you specific instructions.
- Long-term: brush and floss normally once the gum has healed. A six-monthly check is enough.

The questions we hear most.
If yours isn’t here, ring or message and Dr. Sampada Khair will answer it herself.
Does the surgery hurt?
The placement itself is done under local anaesthetic — you feel pressure, not pain. Afterwards, most people manage with regular paracetamol for a day or two. Bigger discomfort is uncommon and we will tell you what to look out for.How long does the whole process take?
From first consultation to crown, usually 3 to 6 months. Most of that time is the bone healing — you only need to come in for short appointments at each stage. Will my implant look like a real tooth?
Yes. The crown is shade-matched to the teeth on either side, and the implant sits at the gum line the same way a natural root would. Most people who know you will not be able to tell. How long does an implant last?
With proper cleaning and regular check-ups, implants commonly last 15–25 years and often longer. The crown on top may need replacing once or twice in that time — the implant itself rarely does. What does a dental implant cost?
Cost depends on how many implants, what brand of implant system, and the crown material. We don't quote sight-unseen — ring or WhatsApp +91 79000 97145 and we'll give you a real number after a short check.Am I a good candidate?
Most adults are. The two things we check are bone (enough to anchor the implant) and general health (well-managed diabetes is fine; heavy smoking can affect healing). The consultation tells us in 20 minutes.
