General dentistry in Airoli, Navi Mumbai.
General dentistry is the everyday work that keeps everything else simple — routine check-ups, professional cleaning (scaling and polishing), fillings, simple extractions, gum care, and early detection of any issue before it becomes a bigger problem. Most adults need one or two general dentistry visits a year.
What general dentistry actually catches.
A six-monthly check picks up small cavities while they are still small, gum inflammation while it is still reversible, cracked fillings before they break completely, and the early signs of grinding, gum recession, or oral cancers. All of these are easier and cheaper to fix early.
Most patients who skip routine care for years come in eventually for pain — and by that point what could have been a small filling has become a root canal or an extraction. Routine is boring and that is the point.
What we cover under "general".
Examinations and X-rays. Scaling and polishing. Fluoride application. Tooth- coloured fillings (composite). Simple tooth extractions. Gum care and periodontal cleaning. Management of common conditions like mouth ulcers and minor lesions. Diagnosis of any issue and either treating it on the spot or planning the next step.
Bigger work — root canals, crowns, implants, braces, surgical extractions — has its own page. But the door into all of that is the routine check-up.
How it works
A typical routine visit takes 45 to 60 minutes.
Check, clean, treat anything small on the spot, plan anything bigger for a separate appointment. You leave knowing exactly where your teeth stand.
- 01/
Full check-up
We look at every tooth, the gums, your bite, and how everything fits together. We use a dental mirror and sometimes an X-ray to see what we can't with the naked eye. - 02/
Professional cleaning
Plaque hardens into tartar that no brush can remove. We use an ultrasonic scaler to gently lift it off, especially around the gum line and between teeth where the brush misses. Followed by a polish. - 03/
Fillings if needed
If we find a cavity, we discuss the options — usually a tooth-coloured composite filling done in the same visit if it is small. Larger ones may need a second visit. - 04/
Gum check
We probe gently around each tooth to check the gum attachment. Early gum disease (gingivitis) is fully reversible with good cleaning; advanced gum disease (periodontitis) needs more involved treatment. - 05/
Plan for next time
We agree what work — if any — needs doing in follow-up visits, and book your next routine check in 6 months.
After treatment
What we ask you to do between visits.
- Brush: twice a day, two minutes each time, with fluoride toothpaste. Spit out — do not rinse with water afterwards (it washes the fluoride away).
- Floss or interdental brush: once a day. The brush misses about 30% of each tooth surface; flossing covers the gap.
- Diet: sugar frequency matters more than amount. Constant snacking is worse than one sweet treat after a meal.
- Come back when something changes: a new sensitivity, bleeding gums that do not settle, a chipped tooth, a sore that has not healed in 2 weeks. Do not wait for the next 6-month check.

The questions we hear most.
If yours isn’t here, ring or message and Dr. Sampada Khair will answer it herself.
How often should I come in?
For most adults: once every 6 months for a check-up and cleaning. If your gums or teeth need more attention, we may suggest every 3–4 months. Healthy patients with low risk can sometimes stretch to once a year.Does a cleaning hurt?
For healthy gums, no — it feels like a thorough brush. If you have not had a cleaning in a long time or your gums are inflamed, there can be some sensitivity. We can use a numbing gel if needed. My gums bleed when I brush. Is that normal?
No — healthy gums do not bleed. Bleeding is the earliest sign of gum inflammation (gingivitis). The good news is it is fully reversible: a cleaning, plus brushing properly twice a day and flossing daily, usually stops the bleeding within 2 weeks. What about teeth whitening or cosmetic work?
General dentistry comes first — any cosmetic work assumes healthy teeth and gums underneath. See our pages on teeth whitening and smile makeovers for the cosmetic options. What is a scaling and polish?
Scaling removes hardened tartar (calculus) from your teeth using a fine ultrasonic vibration. Polishing follows with a soft rotating cup and a mildly abrasive paste to smooth the tooth surface and remove surface stain. Together they take about 30–45 minutes.Cost?
Routine check-ups and standard cleanings are reasonably priced. Fillings depend on size and number. Ring or WhatsApp +91 79000 97145 for current prices.
